PhD Stuff

Hopefully I'll manage to keep this page up-to-date with all
the stuff I'm doing in the 'exciting' world of physics!!!
This consists of:

The IC Years

The RAL Years

Experiments:

All Optical Injector

Advanced Fast Ignitor

Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine

On the 1st October 2002 I started my PhD at Imperial College, London.
I'm working as part of the Plasma Physics Group , in particular, looking at
Laser-Plasma Interactions. My supervisor (for IC) is Dr Z Najmudin.

To be honest, there's not much more to say in this section because I spend most of my time doing
experimental work at RAL.

The Rutherford Appleton Laboratory

This is where I do most of my experimental stuff with the Central Laser Facility .
My project is funded by a Basic Technology Grant from the EPSRC to research novel plasma baser
accelerator systems. This is done under the supervision of Dr P Norreys and help from Dr Stefan Karsch.

All Optical Injector

The main part of my PhD and indeed my funding comes from a Basic Technology Grant called Alpha-X. The
principal investigator is Prof D Jaroszynski at The TOPS facility at the University of Strathclyde.

Advanced Fast Ignitor

This experiment was done in two parts. Part 1 was lead by the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory
in California. Included in the collaboration were RAL, UC Davis, ILE (University of Osaka). Part 2 is being lead by RAL
with the same collaborators. The experiment aims to produce fusion in a microballoon with a gold cone inserted to keep
a channel free for the heating beam.

More info on this can be found on the web pages of the collaboration.
